So, bring your kids and all your favorite artists to City Hall, 500 East Third Street, in Downtown Loveland and let City Council know you support their efforts to build Loveland's creative communities. The date is Tuesday September 21st at 6:30 PM. at City Council chambers.

August Networking Party

August 19th Networking Event Hosted by Independence Gallery and Art of the Rockies

Offering beautiful art everywhere you looked, Independence Gallery and Art of the Rockies provided an exceptional space for our networking event to publicly unveil the 2010 Loveland Artsource! The only guide to the visual and performing arts in Loveland, this glossy, full color marketing piece is being distributed throughout the state at all of the Colorado Welcome Centers. Recently, the Colorado Welcome Center in Burlington placed a reorder for more guides after giving out more than 240 copies in the past three and a half months. Great publicity for our town!

Delicious food and desserts for the event were graciously prepared by talented vice-president of the D.L.A., Jan Brown. Door prizes included a framed print, a massage, and gift certificates for custom framing at Art of the Rockies. Art of the Rockies features prints by renowned artists and professional custom framing, including shadow boxes to preserve memorable keepsakes. Independence Gallery features the work of many talented Loveland artists, predominantly painters, as well as offering photography and jewelry. The two galleries share a large space on Lincoln Avenue between Fourth and Fifth Streets.

DLA has Booth at Corn Roast Festival

Many hands make light work, and there were many hands helping out at the DLA's Pepsi booth during the Corn Roast Festival. The Downtown Loveland Association manned a Pepsi stand to help out the event organizers, Engaging Loveland and the Loveland Chamber of Commerce, and to raise funds for our nonprofit organization (part of the profits are split with the nonprofits running the Pepsi booths). Literature about the DLA and Downtown Loveland was also given to booth visitors, including the 2010 Loveland Artsource and brochures for the Fourth Street Merchants Association and for "Night on the Town."

Engaging Loveland and the Loveland Chamber of Commerce did a great job planning the event and it was fun and very well attended. There was great musical entertainment, dancing, and lots of food and drink! And WE sold lots of soft drinks!

Many thanks to the wonderful volunteers who spent their  weekend time volunteering in the DLA Pepsi booth:

- President of the DLA, Bob Doolittle

- Board members Celeste Smith, Carla Schlosser, Barry Floyd and Mary Bahus-Meyer

- DLA administrative assistant Brian Jarvis

And special thanks to our family members, friends and relatives:

- Ralph and Cheryl Parker (former member of the DLA's Design Committee and long-time supporter)

- Satori Bahus-Meyer (Mary's 10 year-old daughter)

- T.J. Schlosser (Carla's husband)

- Alaynna (Barry's cousin)

P.S. Did anyone recognize board member Mary Bahus-Meyer and her daughter dancing with The Belly Belles in the parade?! Their group won first place in the "Theater, Dance, Cheer and Gymnastics" category in the parade!

The "Rialto Bridge" Project

Illustration of Proposed Rialto Bridge Project

Been hearing about the “Rialto Bridge” Project? At a recent DLA networking event, Troy Peterson of Flagstone Partners explained the exciting things being considered for use of the space adjacent to the Rialto, if the former Monaco Ristorante and the shoe store are razed. These might include a large "picture window" glass front to the adjacent building, displaying light and movement and excitement as people move about inside, lots of space for the performers and a "green" room, and space for a new restaurant, possibly serving everything from appetizers and tapas to dinner and fine wine to coffee and dessert! The bridge project would make the Rialto Theater's dreams for space come true and add a lot of cachet and gathering space to our downtown.

P.S. The “Rialto Bridge” theater expansion is supported by the Community Foundation of Northern Colorado and is an example of a project through which the Community Foundation connects with donors who wish to establish a charitable legacy. For more information, read the article on page 15 in the 2010 Loveland Artsource.
